Watch the Journey

Here’s My Text Message To Steven Pressfield…

What if you could interview your favorite author or celebrity??

I’m a couple weeks into my journey to try and write a book that sells one million copies!

(Follow my journey on Instagram!)

And the other day as I was writing, I pulled some quotes from one of my favorite books of all time, The War of Art (read it if you haven’t!).

Then I thought to myself… ah man, it would be so cool to interview the author, Steven Pressfield.

So I found him on Instagram. And in case you’ve ever wondered how I reach out to people I want to build a connection with, this is how…

“Steven, so I’ve heard about your work for years, but finally about five months ago, I read War of Art. It was so good that I bought every book you’ve ever written. Just got the newest one today, the signed copy. And I’ve read about 60% of it. I’ve been telling my audience to read all of them. I’ve been quoting you at my events, and my trainings. Anyway, just wanted to let you know, I’m a huge fan and love your work. Thank you for it, you are amazing!”

That’s it.

Notice I’m not asking him for anything? I’m just trying to build a connection. A) because I want to build a connection with him and B) because I know that there’s no chance of us collaborating if it’s not built on mutual trust, kindness, and respect.

Too many people just reach out and say, “Hey! Will you buy my stuff?”

That’s the wrong way to reach out to the people you want to connect with.

Try to prioritize the relationship over anything else.

If you can get an ongoing conversation with the person that is genuine, then you open the door to future conversations… and potentially even an ongoing friendship.

And if there’s one thing that’s brought me more unexpected opportunities than anything else…

…it’s the relationships I’ve built with my favorite authors and celebrities. 🙂

Here’s the point…

A) Reach out. Don’t be shy. If you do it right, you’ll be shocked at how often these people will respond.

B) Focus on the relationship. Don’t try to sell anything through your first or ever second message. Just build the relationship and trust the process.

Anyways, we’ll see what Steven says… but I’m excited to potentially get to chat with him!

Who are you going to reach out to? ;)
